How To Play Blues Guitar

One thing I was always interested in from an early age was learning how to play blues guitar! It was always something high on my list of things when I was young because I simply enjoyed watching people playing, and the sound!

I always found the sound of the blues guitar very unique and special! It was one of those sounds that would always satisfy me, and I could simple just sit and listen to blues guitar songs for hours!

For me it was one of those very satisfying sounds that has now lived with me for years! Sure I’m interested in other things, but learning how to play the blues guitar was something high on my agenda!

When I was young, listening was just about all I could do, because my parents couldn’t afford guitar lessons for me, even though they were the one thing I really wanted, and they certainly couldn’t afford to buy me a guitar so I could learn blues!

Eventually though after quite a while of waiting, my parents managed to get together the money to purchase a guitar for me! Understandably I was over the moon completely that I had my own guitar and I started to look into how to play blues and learn my favourite songs!

Problems came though because I couldn’t afford lessons, but also I couldn’t read music! Occasionally my dad would get hold of a piece of blues guitar music for me but I didn’t know how to read it, so even though I’d sit for hours trying to work it out, I never really got anywhere!

I started to play my own little riffs, tried making solo’s and just keep playing really to see what I could actually achieve!

I did okay, but being young my attention soon moved onto other things and I ended up putting the guitar in the past! – I did still enjoy listening to the sound of blues guitar, and I was sure one day that I would learn how to play the blues guitar, but right now because we couldn’t afford lessons and I didn’t really have any skill with music before, I decided to quit!

It was actually years later when I was older that I got back into listening to blues guitar and my interest in learning how to play blues on guitar sparked back up again! – Luckily enough though I had money (from a job) and the internet was around so there was plenty of information for me to get my hands on!

Initially I looked at buying some music but then I couldn’t read standard music so that seemed a bit pointless to me! – I was confident that there would be some information that was better than:

a) getting lessons
b) purchasing music and teaching myself

After searching for a while I didn’t really find much, but thankfully I finally managed to come across a site that did help me out.

The site I found had plenty of videos and tutorials and although I’m definitely not a pro, it’s helped me with learning how to play blues guitar a lot! – I can now make my own riffs, solo’s and play along to my favourite tracks! Hopefully I may even be joining a band soon!
